Playback Theatre: Rites of Passage

Rites of Passage:

Healing the psychic wound of incomplete initiatory journeys

June 19, 2010

Life is initiatory. At the end of one journey begins another. For most the attempt to transition from one chapter in life to another goes unfinished, for many their hard-won efforts go unwitnessed. Our vocational calling is to be found in these profound rites of passage. It is possible to finish what was once risked and lost. The limbic brain does not recognize time. The same can be said of the soul. As such we each carry around an imaginary pocket-full of pawnshop tickets representing left-over, incomplete initiations.

This one day training offers participants a rare opportunity to revisit past life-defining stories and complete the task of personal transformation and reclaim our soul’s calling.

Tools:
Playback theatre, body-centered intelligence, deep reflection/mirroring, light ritual, music, movements and song.

Playback Theatre is an original form of improvisational theatre in which participants tell real life stories. These stories are ‘played back’ by participants. A hybrid form of theatre, social ritual and archetypal psychology, the Playback process is gentle, moving, insightful and playful. Playback Theatre is, in its essence, a creative portal to access the spirit of our times and the many roles we play within a life.  Playback profoundly deepens participants ‘awakening’ to the dramatic invitation of the present moment.  At its most intrinsic level it is an exciting educational and healing tool.
